The design concept for the Muscat white wine packaging is rooted in the island's unique landscape, characterized by low vines buffeted by northeasterly gales. The use of gold for the grapes and wind is a deliberate choice to emphasize their value and the necessity of their combination. On the other hand, the design concept for Limnio red wine is based on the shape of the traditional Gouves of Lemnos - underground carved out rocks used by vintners for the fermentation of must, sealed with round slates. Here too, gold is used to highlight the value of the wine.
What sets these designs apart is their connection through a common design style. Despite the different illustration concepts, the aesthetic remains the same, communicating that these are two excellent products from the same family. The unique elements of these packages are the overall idea and style of the illustrations, and the quality of the label materials.
The packaging is realized using glass bottles and eco paper labels. The labels, with dimensions of 24x9.5cm, are printed using offset for black, hot foil for gold, and gloss embossing for titles. The aim was to make the packaging attractive and eye-catching, hence the choice of a minimal illustration style with a modern character, paper with a special texture, gold foil, and gloss embossing effect for the letters.
The project, which started in May 2020 and finished in December 2020, involved extensive research to identify the specifics and characteristics of the winery and its wines. The two basic elements affecting the quality of the wines, giving them a unique character, are the special climatic conditions prevailing on the island and the traditional way of winemaking. The challenge was to find and visualize the identity of the winery, the benefits of the products, the tradition, and the characteristics of Lemnos island.
In conclusion, Manos Siganos' design for the Garalis Muscat Limnio wine packaging is a testament to the power of thoughtful design that respects tradition while embracing innovation. It is no surprise that this design was awarded Silver in the A' Packaging Design Award in 2022, a recognition given to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that illustrate outstanding expertise and innovation.
